Happy holidays Storefront readers
I had planned to take next week off work to enjoy my baby’s first Christmas with family, but unfortunately a death in the family has taken me away from work earlier than I expected.
So please allow me to send you an early wish for a safe and joyful holiday.
As much as we talk about consumerism on this blog, I hope that this holiday season we can all take a moment to recognize the priceless gifts that life brings us, such as family and friends, and health and happiness.
I will be back before the New Year to catch you up on the latest. Until then, happy holidays!

Merry Christmas to you and thank you for all that you do. Very sorry for the loss of your family member.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you!

My condolences to you & your family. Enjoy the holidays with the new baby.
Sorry for your loss Amanda, hope the holiday season is nice for you afterwards, and THANK YOU for doing an outstanding job with this blog
Cook Out is open today. I’ll send you some pics of the drive thru line.
@OG: Thanks for the report!
We tried to go to Cook Out today. Lines way to long. Will try again another day.
On another note. Has the Bojangles in Vinton closed?
Noticed on the way home Saturday the parking lot was blocked with cones and “closed” on the sign out front. The lights were still on inside though.
@MikeD: I know the Vinton Bojangles was supposed to be getting a renovation, but I have no idea if that’s what is going on now. I thought the work was happening earlier this year.
The lines at Cook Out were unbelievable!! It reminded me of the huge crowd on opening day at Panera Bread 419, Fresh Market. It is a reminder that Roanoke is starved literally for new chain restaurants. There are so many that still are absent here in start contrast to nearby cities. Whole Foods would be a big hit on lower level of Towers, btw! I guess proof is in the pudding!
I’m sorry for your loss, Amanda. I hope you were able to have a nice Christmas.
On a different note, I find the huge lines for new restaurants ridiculous. I love to eat and I love to check out new restaurants, but seriously, people lining up like their waiting for concert tickets is just silly. It’s not like the places are an open one day only deal.
Make that, like they’re waiting.
Debbie, if there’s still a line in 6 months, that’s interesting. Otherwise it’s just a bunch of bored people.
The last thing I’d describe Roanoke as is “starved?.
My neighbor made it thru the long line at Cook Out and reports that the Richee Freeze is much better.
Waiting in line for a long time for a chain like Cook Out is insanity.
Agree with Jack. Roanoke is starved for new places to eat and shop. We are so slow to get anything good in this town. It is embarasing for a city this size. If developers would just take a chance in bringing in some big names here they would be sucessful! Kristen you must live in the dark ages if you think Roanoke is not starved for progression!! Just look at cities our size and smaller for that matter!!
Wing Boss is open too! Pretty good wings. The boneless are not breaded like a lot of other places are. I also went to Cook Out on the day they opened. Their shakes are great!
Things are moving along at Steak & Shake. Steel is going up and welders are hard at work………
