What type of discount store Amanda? Intersting that another grocery store would not want it. Did they take out all the food /refridgeration coolers there?

@Chris: I have heard that a discount clothing store is looking at the old Food Lion on U.S. 220, but last time I checked the deal wasn’t done.

Since whole Foods turned down IVY mARKET MAYBE THE CHARLOTTE DEVEOPER THAT BOUGHT kEAGY WILL GRAB THEM!! AMANDA ANY WORD ABOUT THE OLD FOODLION ON 220. THJAT WOULD BE JUST THE RIGHT SIZE FOR WHOLE FOODS!!

@Mike3: I am seeking an update on the fate of Ivy Market, the shopping center where Ukrops closed. I reported in this column in April that Whole Foods looked at the site but decided against it. Valley Bank owns the property, and president and CEO Ellis Gutshall has said they would like to see a grocer there because the space is built out for one.

Amanada, any updates on a suitor for the former Ukrop’s in South Roanoke? A Whole Foods or another grocer perhaps? Also, there is a group called Food City in Abingdon Va. perhaps-Thanks

Will be interesting how this works out for Kroger. Especially the presumed congestion off of 1-81. Will stop by soon and check it out. Hope they are influential in keeping gas prices on the Peters Creek corridor competitve.Guessing Sheetz will still be a player with their card program and specials, recently the $2 Subs.Ain’t competition grand!!

Stopped by the Kroger fuel station today … the only coffee they have is a vending machine in the corner with powdered nondairy creamer, and they can’t give you cash back with your debit card.

Either of those things are enough to frustrate travelers who pop off the highway and go there for convenience. I pass there on my daily commute but I’ll just continue to go to 7-11 and Sheetz like before.
