Domestications store at Towers is closing

This advertisement was published in The Roanoke Times.

Domestications Outlet Store at Towers Shopping Center in Roanoke is closing.

The store hasn’t set a closing date. Yellow signs in the store’s windows say that merchandise is marked down 50 percent off the lowest price.

A store manager directed media calls to the store’s parent company, Hanover Direct. Several calls last week to the Hanover Direct offices in Virginia were not returned. A call to corporate offices in Wisconsin was also not returned.

Sheryl Simeck, a spokeswoman for Rappaport Cos., which owns Towers, said the store is on a month-to-month lease and plans to close in March or April. Rappaport is working on leasing the space to a new tenant, but Simeck said she didn’t have any information she could announce.

Hanover Direct last year closed its 750,000-square-foot center distribution center on Hollins Road in Roanoke County, which resulted in the loss of 189 jobs, according to the Virginia Workforce Center website, which lists closures and layoffs.

The company later contracted with GSI Commerce to handle its fulfillment at a facility in Martinsville, creating 60 jobs.

No great loss. Just a bunch of junk in there the few times I was in. Looked like someone took a stick and stirred it up!! Hopefully something better will come.

The traffic and parking on the upper level of Towers has gotten so bad that I have substantially curtailed my trips. VDOT’s plan as to Colonial was a total failure. I think it’s worse!

I’m sad to see it go-I’ve found some GREAT deals on bedding, rugs and furniture. A friend told me she heard that they were going to start selling online? Do you know if the Martinsville location will have a store? Not sure if you can find that out Amanda since they’re being so secretive!

Just a bunch of junk with misspelled names embroidered on it. No big loss.

VDOT’s planned extension of Wonju to Brandon will eliminate much of Tower’s traffic problem.

@Shari: I wish I could get answers to your questions but it’s quite clear the company has no intention of talking with me. I called about four times and never got a response.

David can you elaborate? I haven’t heard (nor can I find) anything about plans to extend Wonju to Brandon.

I’m very sorry to see it go. It may have been a bunch of junk to some on here but I’ve gotten GREAT deals there and paid a lot less for it than thru their website. I got a 70.00 quilt for 18.00. The only thing wrong with it was the wrong color burgundy was sewed on back of it. You can’t even tell it. Just glad I got some great deals before they are gone.
