Hot Topic will close for a remodel this spring
A teen clothing store at Valley View Mall is closing temporarily for a remodel.
Hot Topic, next to Lady Footlocker on the upper level of the mall, will undergo a remodel this spring. The store will reopen in mid-May, said company spokeswoman Jennifer Vides.
The store will have a new brick storefront, a new cash register counter, new slat walls, new LED lamps and new flooring, Vides said.
A building permit filed in Roanoke city valued the remodel to cost about $60,000.
Publicly-held Hot Topic agreed earlier this month to be bought by a New York-based private-equity firm, Sycamore Partners, for $600 million in cash.
Lisa Harper, CEO and chairman of the board of Hot Topic, said in a statement that the agreement will give Hot Topic the resources to grow.
“We are very excited about the future growth for the company and know that Sycamore Partners will provide great resources and expertise to us as we operate as a private company,” Harper said in the statement.

Amanda,
Rumor around Martinsville is that Cook-Out is coming, moving into the old Blockbuster building on Commonwealth Blvd. Can you see what you can dig up?
@Jeffrey: Thanks for the tip. I will call Cook Out, but they have been notoriously quiet, at least with us, about their plans. I will let you know if I am able to find out anything.
Speaking of burgers. The last I remember seeing on Steak N Shake was a projected March opening. Well March is quickly coming to a close. Any word on their opening date now? Building looks close to completion.
@Star City: I called last week about an opening date and they didn’t have one, but told me to call back in a week. I will check today.
I like hot topic jackets. I buy jackets from the Hot Topic online store and from the Roanoke store. Some of the jackets are very trendy and some have more of a European edge to them.
FYE AT VALLEY VIEW IS CLOSING SOON THE MALL WANTS THEIR SPACE FOR ANOTHER STORE!!! Amanda are you mad at me ?
@Chris: I’m not mad at you! Thanks for the tip on fye. I will see what I can learn.
Maybe something good like Bananna Republic. Heard they were looking. See what you can find out Amanda.
@Chris: I went out to fye today and there are no store closing signs. An employee told me I need to talk with their corporate office. I haven’t heard back yet from them or the mall manager, who I called this morning.
THE STORE MANAGER TOLD ME LAST WEEK WHEN I SOLD THEM SOME VIDEOS HE SAID HE DIDNT KNOW IF THEY WERE LOOKING FOR A NEW SPOT OR NOT. AND I THOUGHT YOU WERE BECAUSE I HAVE LEFT YOU SEVERAL MESSAGES SINCE YOUR RETURN AND NO ANSWER
Wow Chris, if I didn’t know better, I’d say Amanda doesn’t work for you.
sweetie everybody works for me.
The whole mall could use a makeover.
