Mellow Mushroom to open in Blacksburg

Shaw talked with the company’s franchise development coordinator who said they have an approved site in downtown Blacksburg. The company would not disclose the location.

The restaurant is expected to open in December or January.

Love the Asheville, NC Mellow Mushroom. Good food, great beer, and Deadhead friendly environment. Can’t wait.

We’ve eaten at MM in Charlottesville, Columbia SC, and Savannah GA…and have really enjoyed their food…primarily because they offer a really good gluten-free pizza that, compared to frozen GF pizza prices and prices for other eateries we’ve been to, are pretty darn good…and excellent when compared to the quality. I think they’ll do well here, and we’ll be there right when they open.

    Can’t wait!

I’ve never been to one, but I’ve heard great things. Sorry it’s not coming to Roanoke, but another place to hit before the game, maybe!

Never eaten anything there but have counted on their extensive beer taps at several locations.

I have eaten at Mellow Mushroom at 2 locations in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge Tenn. The food is good and the decor is fun, cool and funky. The restaurant is very themed. The Mellow Mushroom will be a hit in Blacksburg. Hopefully, Roanoke will get a MM….Also, to add, I ate at River Rail Restaurant in the Crytal Springs area of Roanoke. The food taste great. Yet, be prepared to shell out some bucks with $6 cheese of the day, $10 small salads and $28 for an entree. You do get bread with your salad and pre meal. Try the fancy $2 boiled egg. Mix drinks 8 bucks…

I LOVE Mellow Mushroom! I’ve been to the one in C’ville, and the one in Myrtle Beach. Great pizza, but more importantly they have an AWESOME

beer selection!!!! (OOPS, don’t know what I did to send the unfinished comment above!) The MM in C’ville has 40 taps and all but two or three are craft brews! Good prices, too, and a happy hour on the beer. I think it’ll be a hit in B’Burg!

Yup… a great demographic for them. They’ll do great. Places like these skip over Roanoke for Blacksburg quite often. Kind of like Chipotle opening up shop there before realizing Roanoke’s potential. College kids will not hesitate to spend money on good pizza and beer.

. . .forgot to mention above. . . They have a regular happy hour and sometimes happy hour kicks in if it starts to rain. . . .for AS LONG as it rains!!
Not sure if that will happen at all locations though. . .

Amanda. Was down in Raleigh over the weekend and ate at a Bonefish. It was awsome. I asked the manager about Roanoke and he said we were on the list for 2013 openings. Cam you check on this? Would be great if it were true

@Chris: I just called Bonefish’s spokeswoman and left a message. If she calls back with news, I’ll post it to the blog.

Mellow Mushroom is the best chain restaurant to replace some of the void left by the closing of Backstreets. I have eaten at many of the locations across the U.S. and have had consistently good food in all locations except one where the staff were mostly entitled rich kids. The pizza crust is brushed with garlic butter and sprinkled with Parmesan when it is hot out of the oven. Pizzas, calzones, Strombolis, and garlic pretzels have fresh, soft and chewy dough plus quality cheese and flavorful spices. Ingredients are fresh for hot foods and salads, and most of the dressings, dough, and other items are made in-house. I really like the many ingredient options with the pizzas.
