Star City Coffeehouse on Brambleton Avenue in southwest Roanoke County has closed.
A note on the door of the establishment reads:
“We thank you for your patronage. We have enjoyed making many great meals for you over these past four years. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we must unfortunately close our doors. We wish you many happy meals wherever you may go. Star City Coffee House.”
Calls to one of the business owners, Ed O’Keefe, were not returned. Jon Smallwood, also listed as an owner on Star City’s Coffee House’s website, replied to an email but did not disclose why the coffee shop closed. He did not respond to a follow-up voice message seeking more information on the closing. The property owner, listed in Roanoke County real estate records as Robert Woodward, also could not be reached.
Smallwood wrote in an email that “things are a bit hectic at the moment.” He also wrote that Star City Coffee Company, a coffee roaster in Salem also owned by Smallwood and O’Keefe, is still in business. The coffee roaster provides fair trade and organic coffee to several other coffee shops and restaurants in the area.
“While the Coffee House has closed, our roastery the Star City Coffee Company is still open & happily providing to all its customers,” Smallwood wrote in the email.
The coffee house opened in November 2009. In addition to coffee, Star City also served breakfast and lunch.
