Batteries Plus Bulbs, which has two stores in the Roanoke area, has begun offering repairs for cell phones and tablets.
The store joins other retailers who have recently entered the repair business, including Lee Hartman and Sons and Trade and Repair phones, a kiosk inside Valley View Mall.
Johnny Goodwin, manager of the Valley View Batteries Plus Bulbs store, said the company saw room in the cell phone repair market and launched the “We Fix It” program.
“The demand is mighty high,” Goodwin said.
The store is currently fixing Apple products (iPhones, iPads and iPods) and the Samsung Galaxy S3 in-store. All other devices are mailed out with a 5-day turnaround. Customers can pay an additional $19.99 for a three-day turnaround.
Batteries Plus Bulbs uses Apple parts to repair Apple devices, but is not an Apple authorized service provider, Goodwin said. That means that repairs done at the store will void the phone’s warranty, he said. Batteries Plus Bulbs offers a 6-month warranty on its repairs, Goodwin said.
Goodwin anticipates being able to repair more devices in-store as the program progresses. He and his assistant manager are the only two employees trained to do repairs.
In addition to repairs, Batteries Plus Bulbs also installs screen protectors using a heat gun. After the initial $19.99 install the store will replace the screen as many times as needed for $9.99, Goodwin said.
Batteries Plus Bulbs also has a store at the corner of Electric Road and Starkey Road in southwest Roanoke County.
