Building plans filed with the city show that Walmart wants to built-out in a portion of the space where the bakery is now located for the fast-food restaurant. The plans show that some bakery fixtures, such as shelving, signs, a refrigerated display and a sink, will be relocated. A Walmart spokeswoman did not return a voicemail regarding the bakery.
The restaurant plans show a kitchen, serving and checkout area, and dining room.
Two voicemails left with Burger King’s media relations department were not returned, so it is unclear when work might begin or when the restaurant might open.
Roanoke’s department of planning, building and development is currently reviewing the plans. The build-out is valued at $80,000, according to a building permit.
Other Walmarts in the area have restaurants inside the stores. The Walmart in Clearbrook has a Subway, and the store on Challenger Avenue has a McDonald’s.
