Jaxson Taylor: preppy staples, College and Main, Blacksburg

Name: Jaxson Taylor

Who is your style icon? “I follow several  different blogs, trashness.com being one of them. As far as celebrities, Ryan Gosling and Kanye West particularly when he wears suits.”

What’s this outfit’s signature piece? ” I’d have to say it’s my woven belt.”

Where to get it: Ralph Lauren

Occupation: Biology major at Virginia Tech

Age: 20

Location: College and Main, Blacksburg

Date: Tuesday, October 9, 2012

Time: 3:50 p.m.

——————-

What caught my eye: Jaxson had this cool prep minimalist look going on. No socks, sweater over a button up, classic Timex watch, woven belt,  all classic prep staples.

His deck shoes were a highlight as well. While many people buy the more modern clunky, almost athletic version of the classic deck shoe, Jaxson is a smart man and  went for the true classics with the very slim rubber soles welted right to the leather.

I’m seeing some hints that this might be the new “uniform” among the male Tech students. One can only hope.

Nice look, but I’ve never understood not wearing socks….doesn’t the sweat eventually ruin the leather in the shoes or they become stinky?

@Ed, I go sans socks in the warm months. I just like the look, though I only have a couple pair of shoes I actually wear barefooted. Most of the time I’m in loafer socks (the most extreme of no-show socks) for that very reason, my feet sweat a lot. Bare feet do wear out the inside leather a bit faster than with socks, but nothing noticeable if you treat your shoes right. Like walking well, using shoetrees, an occasional cleaning and polish, you know the basic shoe care stuff. If your wearing any type of semi-nice leather shoes, they use 100% leather and canvas type materials in the inner and outer parts of the shoe that are pretty breathable. The more man made materials used, the less they breath, this is a reason leather soled shoes are popular when its warm and shoe makers put out their rubber soled models just before winter. If you ever decided to try a day without socks, wweat can be controlled with a quick dusting of talcum power inside your shoe before lacing up.

About this blog

Welcome to The Roanoke Times' Style Street blog where I, David Verde, will share my street fashion finds from around Southwest Virginia.

How do I do it? I go on a walk with my camera, and when I find people I think look stylish or unique, I stop them and ask if I can take their picture. Although people can be hesitant, nervous and sometimes blush, most say yes.

I make regular visits to Lexington, Blacksburg, Roanoke, Radford, Lynchburg and Friday night jamborees in Floyd. If you see me out, feel free to say hi and pose.

Email me anytime, and follow me on Twitter and Facebook.
