Financial literacy reaps rewards for Cave Spring business students

The Virginia Council on Economic Education honored winners of The Stock Market Game and "InvestWrite" competitions at a luncheon at the Federal Reserve Bank in Richmond on May 9.

In The Stock Market Game a team of accounting students from Cave Spring High School placed first for the spring challenge. They competed against hundreds of teams throughout the state.

The students were: Will Avery, Pratik Mody, Stephen Sinnes, and Brock Vaughn. Their advisor was Andrew Huray.

They received an assortment of prizes, as well as a plaque and a banner to be displayed at the school.

In the "InvestWrite" competition students wrote essays in which they applied the knowledge of math, language arts and business to actual saving and investment principals. The spring competition was won by Brent Lee, a Personal Finance students from William Byrd High School. His advisor was Kari Hancock. Brent received $100 and Mrs. Hancock received $50 and also an assortment of prizes.
