Text of Coach McGuire's e-mail about his departure

If you've read the sports page today, you know that Mike McGuire -- who coached the Hidden Valley girls' basketball team to two state championships -- is leaving to become an assistant coach at the University of Richmond.

Here's the full text of the e-mail he sent to Hidden Valley principal Rhonda Stegall, parents and others in what he called his "basketball family" in which he explained the move:

Subject: Coaching decision

Dear Basketball Family,

I hope this message finds you doing well and looking forward to the
weekend. As some of you probably already know, I am writing this message
to you with mixed emotions and sincerely hope it is an acceptable means of
communication.

I wanted to inform you that I am resigning as the girls basketball coach
at Hidden Valley High and will be accepting an official offer on Monday
afternoon to become an assistant coach at the University of Richmond. I
do want to emphasize to our program that I was not looking to leave the
program. I had long term goals for this program and had strong desires to
continue to build upon the six year tradition of the program. For those
of you in the professional world, it is an honor when you are sought out
for a position of advancement in your career. This was the case for me.
After several discussions, my wife and I feel like this move is something
we need to do and is best for us.

I realize that this professional opportunity would not be possible without
the hard work of your daughters who bought into what we wanted to do while
I was at Hidden Valley. As I told the the returning players today, this
program, along with each and every player I had the opportunity to coach
and get to know, holds a very special place in my heart. I have truly
been blessed and touched with the opportunity to be a part of the Hidden
Valley community and basketball family.

I also want to you to know that I have the confidence that Mrs. Stegall
will work diligently to find the next head coach for the girls basketball
program. She wants what is best for the program. As I discussed with
her, she knows what the program needs now and for the future. I will also
share that I will do whatever I can to help with the transition to the new
coach for the 2008-09 school year.

Again, thank you for all the support, encouragement, dedication, and hard
work during my two years at Hidden Valley High School. Please keep in
touch!

Sincerely,

Mike McGuire

Josh

Leave it up to you guys to take something that is none of your business and put it out there before a hard working, great Coach who was nothing but sincere in his intentions, wanted it out there. Such class.
