Appalachian Power Co. asked the state Friday for permission to string 1.4 miles of new overhead electrical line and build a new substation in the Tanglewood area of of Southwest Roanoke County.

The substation site is between Tanglewood Mall and Green Valley Elementary School, near a handful of apartment complexes including Honeywood Apartments and Pebble Creek Apartment and Stone Brook and adjacent to the cul-de-sacs on Berryhill Drive and Crawford Road.
