Andy Shumate takes first place in senior golf tournament

Andy Shumate of Southwest Roanoke County took first place in his division in this week's Roanoke Valley Senior Golf Tournament. That's him at left.

Here's the full release:

Donald Carlson of Troutville was the overall winner in the Roanoke Valley Senior Golf Tour's September tournament held September 16th at Auburn Hills Golf Club in Riner.

Carlson, playing in Division 2 recorded a net score of 61. He also picked up low gross honors with a round of 78. Second place in Division 2 went to Pete Akers with a net 62, Fred Williams, third place with a net 64, Richard Smith, fourth place with a net 67 and Steve Blades with a net score of 68.

In Division 1 Andy Shumate finished in first place with a net score of 64 which was decided by matching score cards over second place Jim Snidow. Third place was also decided by matching score cards with third place Lynnis Vernon and fourth place Mike Gray both recording net 65's. Art Lawrence finished in fifth place with a net 66. Low gross honors in Division 1 went to John Hubbard with a score of 71.

Thanks to the 93 RVSGT members who participated and to Jeff Gandee and his staff at Auburn Hills. Also, thanks to Tara Burton and her Humana staff for furnishing us drinks and snacks.

Next up for the tour is Pete Dye's River Course on October 7th at 9 AM.
