Showtimers Community Theatre is proud to present another show, Biloxi Blues, this fall. The show begins on September 17 and will continue through September 28.

Biloxi Blues is a comedy set in the early 1940's on an army base at the beginning of WWII. The story is based around new recruits of that time period and is the second play of a three part series.

Showtimers describes the show as "a story of Eugene Morris Jerome, alter ego of the youthful Neil Simon. Eugene is young army draftee during the Second World War going through his basic training. As an aspiring writer, Eugene records his memoirs of: the daily interactions with his fellow recruits, the overbearing discipline of the hard nosed drill sergeant, the visits with the local prostitute, and the general life at boot camp in Biloxi, Mississippi in 1943. As the play progresses, Eugene learns about Life, Love, Sex, and Friendship while facing the uncertain future of going off to war."

Biloxi Blues was the winner of the Tony Award for "Best Play" in 1985.

This show is an adult show, with strong language.

"It's a story of young men in wartime who have to grow up really fast," Cindy Keeling, wardrobe designer said. "The majority of the story takes place in the barracks. There is direct correlation to this play and those who served in WWII in our community."

Auditions for the show began in July, according to Director David Colatosti.

About 20 people, including actors and stage hands will be involved in producing the show.

"It's all challenging. The biggest challenge is being organized," Colatosti said. "We have a lot of new actors."

Colatosti said that originally they did not have enough men sign up to audition and had to search for more male actors to fill those parts.

"I can't wait for it to start," he said. "I'm excited. I think it's going to be a good show. It's starting to come together."

Showtimes for Biloxi Blues are Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $12. To reserve tickets call 540-774-2660 or 1-877-336-9294. Tickets may also be purchased online here.
