Cave Spring grad arrested at Republican convention
You may have heard about 286 people getting arrested Monday during an anti-war march in Minneapolis during the first day of the Republican convention. Well, one of those arrested was Matthew Rourke -- an Associated Press photographer, and a 1994 graduate of Cave Spring High School.
The Reporter's Committee for Freedom of the Press says Rourke was arrested after taking a shot of a police officer kneeling on a protester's neck. AP reports he was later released and authorities said no charges were anticipated.
You can read more about the incident from Associated Press and the Reporter's Committee for Freedom of the Press -- the latter, by the way, has the photo of the protest scene and Rourke in custody.

JoshIs this something to be proud of? For heaven's sake, actually post some news for a change, don't let the people pulling the strings (The Times) corrupt your paper in its stages of infancy, you already seem to be having a hard enough time filling the pages, but I wouldn't think it would warrant this crap.

LarkinI disagree, Josh. It is news because this young man was arrested simply for taking a picture. It is news because it is one of our own. As for "filling the pages," this is a community blog that covers all the stories that the full Roanoke Times does not have room for. I, for one, am glad that these issues are reported here.
