Cave Spring Middle School sports teams open their seasons

Cave Spring Middle School’s volleyball team, football team, and cheerleading squad were all in game action during the first week of school.

The volleyball team opened its season at home with a straight set victory against Andrew Lewis and gave head coach, Audrey Easter her first win as head coach for the Lady Squires. The girls dropped a close match while visiting Read Mountain on August 28 and were humbled by Benjamin Franklin before getting their second victory on the year with a win at William Byrd.

The football team, under head coach Fuzzy Minnix, lost a see-saw battle to Dublin in their opener by the score of 24-18. The Squires were overwhelmed at Central Academy by the score of 37-0 in their second game.

Playing William Byrd at home, Jordan Bryant out-jumped and out-wrestled Byrd’s pass defense to score all 16 points in the Squires’ 24-16 loss to the Terriers.

The football team plays at Benjamin Franklin for its next game and the volleyball team will play Andrew Lewis Middle School.
