I thought we had finally killed this thing, but Wal-Mart’s insistence on continuing this project shows that they don’t care at all for the communities they destroy. The Clearbrook community will lose safety and security due to the increased traffic around their 911 dispatch center and Clearbrook Elementary will be strangled to death by the new traffic flow. For those of us who live on Buck Mountain Road and the neighborhoods that come off of that road, we should hope to never have to use 220/581 again because it’s going to be a nightmare trying to turn onto 220 when that store is built.

I say again, what is wrong with the Wal-Mart that exists only a mile away? Moving to the new building will disrupt business at the surrounding strip mall and it will hurt the Clearbrook community. If they want to expand their existing building, they can and they’re lying to you when they say that they can’t. Wal-Mart owns its own leasing company. They pay rent to themselves.

I thought that it was inevitable. When they backed off a few months’ back, it simply felt like a cooling off period to me.

The question for me is what goes in with it(restaurants, service businesses), and what goes into the old Mal Mart slot? Roanoke needs a Kohl’s!!
