Bent Mountain Elementary School experiences Ancient Rome

Principal Karen Mabry of Bent Mountain Elementary School sent us these photos of the school’s ancient rome experience. Here is what she had to say:
“Bent Mountain third graders are currently studying Ancient Rome.  Recently they were visited by a Roman soldier, parent Rick Derrico, and then ate a meal at a “take-away bar” or popina.  Their food choices reflected the diet of the Romans which consisted of foods grown in the area and those imported from conquered lands–a diverse menu of fruits, vegetables, meats, and grains.  Third grade teacher, Barbara Guynn, explains the food choices including snails that the students have to pick from the shells.  Kaitlyn, a third grade student, contemplates the fattened snail that she is about to eat.”
If you want to send us photos from your school, send them to news@swo-co.com and see them featured in an upcoming edition of SWoCo.
