Photo: Bear rummages trash can in Kings Chase neighborhood

Richard White sent us these photo along with this to say: “Here is a picture of a bear that got into our garbage in August. We live in Kings Chase off of Buck Mountain Road. This is the first bear in our neighborhood, but they had been seen in the neighborhood next to us a few times. The Virginia Department of Game video is good and one item it mentioned is that the issue of getting between them and their cubs is applicable to grizzlies and not black bears. Also, bird feeders attract them.”
Thanks Richard! If you see a bear, let us know at news@swo-co.com.
We had a previous items on bears being sighted in Southwest Roanoke County on Sept. 2.
