Two Hidden Valley Middle School students break record during Space Camp
Barbara Filip of Southwest Roanoke County recently sent us photos of Hidden Valley Middle School students Joseph Robertson and Alex Filip who attended Space Camp this summer. Here is what she had to say”
“I am so proud of two of our Hidden Valley Middle students. Two of Hidden Valley Middle students attended Space Camp this past summer in Huntsville AL, a 7th grader Joseph Robertson and 8th grader Alex Filip. Not only did they have a fun and educating experience, but they met retired astronauts and participated in the Robotics challenge where Camp records were broken. Participants were divided into groups of four students and their challenge was to build a robot which later was to participate in many challenges and battles. Joseph’s team of four has one the entire challenge and the group, Differential, that Alex and Joseph was on generated and scored the highest points of all the teams participating in the summer camp program, and if I am not mistaken their score was the highest of all teams ever in the history of space camp. This may be confirmed by space camp officials but both boys have told me afterward that their scores were the highest in history of Space Camp existence. Their team received many awards and patches rewarding them for their hard work. We are all so proud of their accomplishments and the way they represented our little town of Roanoke where some of the participants came from Italy, France, Spain and all of the US.”
