Chuck Lionberger of Roanoke County schools sends this announcement:
MABRY ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT,
SHARP NAMED NEW BACK CREEK PRINCIPAL
Mabry ends 25 year career with Roanoke County Public Schools
ROANOKE – The Roanoke County School Board has announced that Virginia Sharp, current acting principal at Bent Mountain Elementary, will become the new principal at Back Creek Elementary, beginning July 1. Sharp will replace Karen Mabry, who will retire June 30 after 25 years of service, most recently as principal of Back Creek.
Mabry first joined Roanoke County Public Schools in 1971 as a teacher at Cave Spring Elementary. She left Roanoke County Public Schools in 1986 to teach at Roanoke Catholic School and returned in 2003. She became principal at Bent Mountain Elementary in 2006 and was named principal at Back Creek Elementary in 2009.
Sharp previously has served as the assistant principal at Glen Cove Elementary before becoming the principal at Bent Mountain in 2009.
“While we are sad to see Karen retire and we thank her for her many years of service to Roanoke County Public Schools, we are equally happy that Virginia will be carrying on the tradition of educational excellence at Back Creek,” said Roanoke County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Lorraine Lange.
