Southwest Roanoke County student selected as Who’s Who honoree

BLACKSBURG, Va., April 27, 2010 – Sara Equi of Roanoke, Va., 24018, a senior majoring in interdisciplinary studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, has been named to the national list of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges this year.

Each year, Virginia Tech selects students to be honored for their academic achievement and demonstrated leadership by naming them to the list. The students will be included in the distinguished biographical volume<http://www.whoswhoamongstudents.com/home.asp> (http://www.whoswhoamongstudents.com/home.asp) that honors the nation’s most noteworthy students of higher learning.

Equi, is one of 91 Virginia Tech students that have been named to the Who’s Who national list this year.

Who’s Who Among Students is one of the most prestigious awards the academic community can bestow. Who’s Who candidates are chosen on the basis of scholarship ability, participation and leadership in academic and extracurricular activities, citizenship and service, and potential for future achievements.

Virginia Tech’s Who’s Who recipients will be also recognized at the student recognition banquet<http://www.calendar.vt.edu/main.php?view=event&eventid=1248880712716> (http://www.calendar.vt.edu/main.php?view=event&eventid=1248880712716) on April 10 and at the University Student Leadership Awards<http://www.uusa.vt.edu/studentActivities/leadershipDevelopmentinfo.php#uslas> (http://www.uusa.vt.edu/studentActivities/leadershipDevelopmentinfo.php#uslas) April 29.

Selections to Who’s Who Among Students are made each fall by a selection committee convened by the department of student activities<http://www.uusa.vt.edu/studentActivities/leadership/studentactivities.php> (http://www.uusa.vt.edu/studentActivities/leadership/studentactivities.php), a unit within the Division of Student Affairs<http://www.dsa.vt.edu/> (http://www.dsa.vt.edu/). The campus nominating committee, created to nominate the upper-classmen and graduate students eligible for the program, is composed of faculty, administration, and members of the student body.

Who’s Who was founded more than 70 years ago. It was created so that those deserving recognition for their outstanding academic accomplishments, diverse service, and scholastic contributions could be honored without dues or fees.
