Photos: North Cross School’s JK4 students have ‘Word Sight Day’

Students in North Cross School’s JK4 classes had a blast playing games learning words and reading them on Thursday, May 27.

These 4 and 5-year-old students showed off the reading skills they have learned in the last year. Most of them could not read prior to enrolling in JK4.

Sight words are words they should know to begin to read. Students spent the morning playing games, finding their sight words around the classroom and writing them down, and sporting their very own home-made t-shirts with their respective word for the day. All day students will be called by their particular sight name.

Photos: Knights Morning Buzz and Faculty v. Student Ping Pong Tournament

Bright and early Wednesday morning students and faculty, parents and community members joined forces to raise funds for the American Cancer Society and Leukemia Lymphoma Society with Cave Spring High School’s 3rd Annual Knights Morning Buzz event.

Students charged $5 at the door for entry into the event and $5 for a haircut. Volunteer hairdressers were on hand to donate their time to cutting Cave Spring’s hair.

Also during the event a faculty v. student ping pong tournament was held and food was available donated by local businesses like Subway, Bubble Cake, Famous Anthony’s and Dunkin Donuts.

Knights Morning Buzz was held in honor of Linda Harman and Carrie Wickert, a 1995 graduate of CSHS who died just a few days ago from cancer.

Mr. Shane Pendleton agreed to participate in the ‘Sheer Shame Event’ and shave his head depending on how much money was raised.

For $200 he agreed to sahve his sideburns but leave his goatee.

For $400 raised he agreed to shave off his goatee.

For $600 he agreed to shave off his mustache.

For $800 raised he would allow the hair off his collar to be shaved.

And finally for $1,000 he’d let them buzz his hair completely.

Unfortunately for him, but luckily for the students and faculty, Pendleton’s hair was completely buzz cut after just an hour with the raising of $1000.

By the end of the day Wednesday, Cave Spring High School had raised $2,017.77 for the American Cancer Society and Leukemia Lymphoma Society. Funds are still being raised and a final total will be announced on Friday.
