“Permissive left turn” coming to Chapparal Drive

Drivers going through Chapparal Drive at Penn Forest will notice some new lights — including a flashing yellow light called a “permissive left turn.”

It’s a new thing that the Virginia Department of Transportation is experimenting with.

Reporter Cody Lowe of The Roanoke Times has more details.

  1. Don’t do it. North Carolina does this and it is BAD! I lived there for the last 2 years and that left turn caused confusion and accidents.

  2. It’s a great idea, and like any great idea, whether it succeeds or fails will depend entirely on execution.

Since execution will depend on the attentiveness and mindset of the driving public, this will fail.
