The Roanoke County School Board has selected Ashley McCallum as the new principal at Green Valley Elementary. McCallum, who currently is the principal at Masons Cove Elementary, previously served as the assistant principal at Green Valley. She replaces Tammy Newcomb who earlier was named the principal at William Byrd Middle School.
McCallum first came to Roanoke County Public Schools in 1999 as a physical education teacher at Mountain View Elementary School. She was named the assistant principal at Green Valley in 2006 and became the principal at Masons Cove Elementary in 2009.
McCallum holds a Bachelor’s degree in physical education and an elementary education endorsement from Roanoke College. She also holds a Masters degree in education from Virginia Tech.
“Ashley was a great assistant principal at Green Valley and has been a wonderful principal at Masons Cove,” said Roanoke County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Lorraine Lange. “I’m confident Green Valley will continue to excel under her leadership,” Dr. Lange added.
