Scenic photos from Paint Bank and Hanging Rock
Tim Thornhill of Southwest Roanoke County shares another photo gallery of scenic views.
He tells us:
Paint Bank is a small stop along rt 311 primarily known for the Swinging Bridge restaurant and a fish hatchery. Stroll the beautiful grounds and watch the trout jumping out of the water in their stocked pond. Take a left at the restaurant and a short drive will pass many buffalo grazing in the fields, the same ones featured on the menu at Swinging Bridge. Turn right at the sign for Hanging Rock Tower and after driving up the mountain take a short but worthy hike to Hanging Rock. The view is spectacular from this mountaintop observatory sitting on the spine of the mountain. The trail is the Allegheny Trail, West Virginia’s 300 mile version of the Appalachian trail. Barely an hour from Roanoke this is one of the best hiking/lunch combos around.
