Showtimers Community Theatre presents “A Christmas Carol,” opening on Wednesday, Nov. 30 and running through Sunday, Dec. 11.
The play features long-time Showtimers actors, first-timers and everyone in between. Cast members include Patrick Kennerly as Charles Dickens; Cave Spring High School freshman Elena Hernandez, as the child; Vincent Randall as (the hilarious) Mark Lemon; Adam Wood as Frederick Dickens; Tim Kennard as Clarkson Stanfield; Faith Christian School student Madeline Neal, as Helen Hogarth; Penn Forest Elementary School fifth grader Tanner Smith, as Charley Dickens; Jill Mason as Mrs. Stanfield; Della Mason-Stacy as Catherine Dickens and Bob Tovern as John Forster.
Nancy Lawrence directs Michael Paller‘s special take on the original version by Charles Dickens.
“I really like this version,” Lawrence said. “It’s different, and as everyone knows, I like different.”
In this version, Dickens doesn’t want to read the annual Christmas story; he wants his family members and friends to act it out instead. Dickens himself takes on the infamous role of Ebenezer Scrooge (a role that Kennerly brings to life, complete with prosthetic overlong, knobby nose).
“A Christmas Carol” will be performed Nov. 30 through Dec. 3 and Dec. 7 through Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. and Dec. 4, 10 and 11 at 2 p.m.
For tickets, visit the Showtimers website or call Showtimers at 540-774-2660 or toll free at 877-336-9294. Showtimers is located at 2067 McVitty Road in Roanoke.
Showtimers will hold auditions for their next play, “Nunsense,” also directed by Nancy Lawrence, on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. Roles are available for five women ages 20 and up. Click here for a complete list of shows in the 2012 season.
