Cave Spring High School’s Gail Adams and Jessica Nguyen win national Scholastic art medals
Two Cave Spring High School students have won national 2012 Scholastic Art & Writing art medals: Gail Adams (painting) and Jessica Nguyen (photography).
Adams and Nguyen will receive their national medal at a special ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City on Friday, June 1. (Of the more than 200,000 national submissions, 13,000 received regional “Gold Key” awards, and 1500 of the Gold Key winners received national medals.)
SCHOLASTIC is the nation’s largest, longest-running (since 1923) and most prestigious scholarship and recognition program for teenage artists and writers. National winners join a legacy of celebrated authors such as Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Kay Walkingstick, Zac Posen, John Currin, Robert Redford, and Joyce Carol Oates. This year, more than 200,000 works of art and writing in 29 categories were submitted by students in grades 7th-12th. Approximately 13,000 Gold Key awards from the regional levels were judged at the national level, and 1500 (the top 11%) received National Medals.
