Most of the young ladies are the ones that were coached by Traci Walters… [who] passed away from ovarian cancer this past January. Despite all of the hurdles this group faced with their coach’s struggle with ovarian cancer, the girls have had a season of success from beginning to end.
Continuing to be coached by Dayna Wells and other coaches at the gym, many of the girls finish as State Champions. Two of the team [members took] away first place in the AA [All Around] (and other events), proving to all that they are the best gymnasts in Region 7 in VA. Three girls [took away] second in the state, and many others are notable finishers.
These girls put in over 16 hours of practice per week all year round to earn their titles. They deserve recognition for all of their hard work in and out of the gym. These and many other meet results can be found on the VAUSAG website.
We are proud of each and every one of them.

I hope to see this in the printed edition, these girls have worked incredibly hard for their success. Many local families are following their achievements. They spend many, many, MORE hours training every week ALL year. NOT just during meet season. While other children are at the pool these girls are at the gym for 4+ hours per day for a minimum of 4 days per week. Even during the school year. The conditioning these gymnasts do each day would put most organized athletes on the sideline during the first hour. Now that conditioning is done only 4 events to practice! vault, bar, beam, and floor. Four events not ONE. Four extremenly difficult, amazing events that only a commited gymnast, that has sepent years traning could even attempt. EACH morining, (not counting PM) classes of beginners run around the gym and learning the begining skills of gymnastics. Each looking at the girls in the BACK on the BARS or the HIGH BEAM, or VAULTING, if they are lucky they catch them having fun, smiling, dancin’, and flipping and flying high to their floor music! All watching in amazement! Wanting and Hopeing to be like them one day! If they are willing to work hard, be commited, be successful, part of a team, family, struggle, triumph, laugh, cry, hurt, heal, struggle, grow, and be successful……at everything…then this is the sport for THEM! Did I mention the word SPECIAL? This is what each and every one of them are! I feel such privledge to be one of the preschooler moms, with all eyes on the girls in the back. Mine is a State champ. When my two girls run up together on the floor, and preschool parents that are new ask about my older gymnast in the back, and they say, OH…I have seen her name on the banners in the gym, I say, how proud of her I am…..and most important…How HARD she has worked!!! She deserves it! This is a tough sport, it is a lifestyle, a difficult one, and only the ones willing to work HARD, HARDEST, succeed. A TRUE LIFE LESSON!
