Thank you to local firefighters for ‘Filling the Boot’ in support of MDA

Two local chapters of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) held fundraisers for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in May 2012.

The Roanoke City Professional Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local #1132 held their annual Fill-the-Boot fundraising campaign over two weekends in May. They raised a total of $2,035.82 to benefit local families!

The Roanoke County Professional Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local #3194 also held their annual Fill-the-Boot fundraiser in May. They raised $1,338! These funds will also benefit local families served by the Roanoke MDA office.

Committed to the eradication of neuromuscular diseases, the IAFF has been a friend and supporter of MDA through the Fill-the-Boot campaign since 1954. The Roanoke Valley Fire Fighters have supported MDA locally for many years. Their combined 2012 events have raised a total of $30,583.82 so far this year!!

Funds raised by Locals #1132 & #3194 support local MDA services  by providing flu shots, clinic services, support groups, research, assistance with the repair of durable medical equipment and providing a week-long session of Summer Camp for children ages 6 to 17.

Nationwide, the IAFF has raised over $460 million to help client families since 1954. All funds remain in the local area in which they were raised to help local families.
