The Virginia Gentlemen Barbershop Harmony Chorus is pleased to announce the recipient of the organization’s annual John Tully Memorial Scholarship. 2012 Cave Spring High School graduate, Mary Louisa Britt, received a $1,000 scholarship on May 22, 2012.
Britt is the daughter of Kevin Britt and Sue Huntington of Roanoke and will attend Syracuse University in the fall majoring in Musical Theatre. She has been a member of the Mill Mountain Theatre Conservatory for the past three years, has placed first in the National Association of Teachers Singing Competition at the state level, has volunteered monthly for the last two years with the Virginia Veterans Care Center performing musical selections and attended the Arnold R. Burton Center for the Performing Arts for the last four years. Britt has held leading roles with Attic Productions in Fincastle, Va. performing the part of Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady and Luisa in The Fantasticks.
“The Virginia Gentlemen have veterans from almost every branch of the military singing in our chorus, states Dave Davis, Marketing Director for the organization. “We are so impressed with Mary Louisa’s volunteerism with the Veteran’s Care Center, entertaining those who gave so much to serve America and we are pleased to recognize her hard work and many contributions to the performing arts in the Roanoke Region.”
The John Tully Memorial Scholarship, honoring former chorus member John Tully, is awarded to high school seniors who have demonstrated leadership in choir, scholarship, and excellence in all aspects of the high school experience.
