Macy Holthouser to celebrate 4th birthday by hosting Alex’s Lemonade Stand
In an effort to join the battle against childhood cancer, Roanoke resident Macy Holthouser will host an Alex’s Lemonade Stand as part of her 4th birthday party celebration on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
For the past six months, Macy has been expressing her wish to host a lemonade stand for her 4th birthday party. After hearing the story of young Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who also hosted her first lemonade stand at the age of 4, Macy wanted to send all of her money raised at the lemonade stand to fight childhood cancer. Along with helping Alex, Macy is hosting the stand in honor of her aunt’s sister, Lori Cannon, who died of cancer at a very young age. Macy is excited to host an Alex’s Lemonade Stand and plans to also have cookies available for a donation.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation emerged from the front-yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $55 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding more than 250 research projects nationally.
