5-Star Bazaar at Brandon Oaks is Saturday, Oct. 6

Roanokers who browse the Brandon Oaks 5 Star Bazaar on Saturday, Oct. 6, will be helping people in pain, as well as picking up some treasures.

All funds raised through the bazaar’s sale of jewelry, home-baked goodies, gifts for Christmas, china, glassware and linens will go to help patients at the Brandon Oaks Nursing and Rehab Center. That facility serves both Brandon Oaks residents and nonresidents. The bazaar, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Brandon Oaks, 3804 Brandon Ave. in Roanoke, is an annual event open to the public.

In the past, money raised via the bazaar has purchased some unique equipment. For example, funds raised this past year have paid for a Lazer Electrical Stimulator which can penetrate deep into tissues, along with an ultrasound machine.

This year’s 5-Star Bazaar will feature furniture, including a 6-foot couch, overstuffed chair, a wicker shelf for the bath and coffee tables. The bazaar will also raffle off a handmade quilt and a table runner, and a handsome boy doll, named “Tom” in the silent auction, who comes complete with papers. Baked goods and hot dogs will be on sale. The event is called the “5-Star Bazaar” to highlight the fact that the BONRC enjoys a five-star rating, the highest possible ranking, from the federal government for the quality of its staff, accommodations and care. Only 12 percent of all nursing homes in the country have earned this ranking. More information is available from Joyce Firing at 989-0028.
