Power line hit during fire crew training; no one hurt
Two Roanoke County fire trucks were involved in a training accident [early Thursday evening] in the Southwest area of the County while conducting a training exercise. No residential structures were threatened.
Volunteer firefighters from the Cave Spring Fire Station were conducting water operations training on the business lined street of Commonwealth Drive earlier this evening. When firefighters were extending the 110’ aerial ladder it struck a high voltage power line causing power outages. No injuries were reported by firefighters on scene. There is significant damage to the two fire trucks involved, but damage estimates have not been figured.
Residents in the surrounding neighborhoods reported hearing two large “booms”, which were likely electrical transformers blowing causing the power outages.
