Edgar Allan Poe Comes Alive at South County on Halloween

Edgar Allen Poe is the Final Performance for Dead Authors Month at the Roanoke County Public Library

Following two performances by dead authors Jane Austen and Mark Twain, Edgar Allan Poe will wrap up this popular series at the Roanoke County Public Library on Halloween. Edgar Allan Poe Comes Alive! starring Scott Craig Jones will be performed at South County Library, 6303 Merriman Road, Roanoke, at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31. The performance is free and doors open at 6:00 p.m.

In this 75-minute live theater production, Poe performs eight of his masterworks – The Tell-Tale Heart, The Raven, Annabel Lee, The Conqueror Worm, Spirits of the Dead, Eldorado, The Masque of the Red Death, and A Dream Within a Dream – in their entirety. The pieces are book ended by Poe himself as he somewhat humorously reminisces about his life and death.

Scott Craig Jones studied acting at Emerson College in Boston and then at Circle in the Square Theater School in New York City. He has starred in over 50 professional plays with thousands of performances at dozens of theaters including Vermont’s Green Mountain Guild, Boston’s Open Door Shakespeare Theater, New York’s Off-Broadway Theaters, Sacramento’s B Street, and California’s School Tour Theaters, where he performed for more than 600,000 California schoolchildren. Scott’s success continued in Los Angeles: lots of plays and improv groups, a few small movies, and a couple TV shows. He really made his mark starring in over 45 TV commercials.

A couple years ago Scott retired to Virginia to be closer to his aging mother and has since bought a home overlooking the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. In May 2008 Scott formed his own touring theater, The Traveling Jones Theater, and is currently touring the mid-Atlantic States with his very successful one-man show Edgar Allan Poe Comes Alive! His first performance of Poe was The Tell-Tale Heart in high school almost 30 years ago.

Altered art is a way to transform ordinary objects into decorative pieces using a variety of techniques and materials, such as rubber stamps, fabric, paper, paint, and fiber.
