FCS Students at “2012 Harvest Swiss” Chess Tournament

John Haig (president), Tim Alligood, and Ethan Mackey

Faith Christian School Chess Club entered three participants in the Roanoke City Schools’ “2012 Harvest Swiss” chess tournament – John Haig, Tim Alligood, and Ethan Mackey. Tim’s father, David Alligood, also participated in the “open” section of the tournament.

Tim Alligood and Ethan Mackey earned Faith Christian School a First Place team finish in the eighth grade and under section.

Each participant played four games. Ethan and Tim finished with identical records of two wins, one loss, and one tie, therefore earning 2.5 points each out of a possible maximum of four. Their collective total of five points bested James Madison Middle School’s second place finish.

Individually, their 2.5 points each tied them for second place in the eighth grade and under section. Due to tie-breaker criteria based on strength of opponents faced, Ethan Mackey brought home the second place trophy and Tim Alligood earned the third place trophy.

Two individual and one team trophy was presented to the School on Monday, October 29th.
