November is National Diabetes Awareness Month – Ways you can participate

National Diabetes Awareness Month (NDAM) focuses on three major components:

Awareness, Fundraising, and Advocacy.

Join the Greater Blue Ridge Chapter as we spread T1D Awareness throughout the community.

Important Dates:

• November 1st- T1Day {BLUE OUT}

• November 14th- World Diabetes Day {BLUE OUT}

Greater Blue Ridge Events:

• Blue Hair Streak Fundraiser & Awareness Campaign

Salon Veluxe in Salem $10 per streak. All proceeds come to JDRF.

Roanoke Salon TBA

• BLUE OUT- November 1st and Nov. 14th : Spread the word at your office, church, or child’s school. Coordinate with administration to encourage everyone to wear BLUE for T1Day and World Diabetes Day. Take pictures of your Blue group and we’ll post to our Facebook page. Flyer available from JDRF office.

Other Ideas for YOU:

• Blue Jean Fundraiser- For a donation, employees can wear blue jeans on certain days during November.

• Flash Mob-Have a flair for theatrics? This is a fun way to raise awareness.

• Dine for Diabetes- Partner with a local restaurant during the month of November so patrons will have an opportunity to add a donation to the total of their bill.

• Donate your Logo- Your graphics department can change the color of your company logo to BLUE for November or T1Day. Lots of companies have Facebook pages which would be the perfect place to display your NDAM blue logo…Just be sure to ask your boss!

• Donate your Cover Photo-Change your Facebook cover photo to the graphic at the top of this sheet. The JDRF office has a Facebook compatible version.

• Turn on a Light! Change a light bulb on your porch, in an office lamp, or another noticeable place. Keep the blue light shinning every night through November.

• Wear Blue – We are asking for a BLUE OUT on November 1st and 14th but take it to another level and wear blue every Friday…or every day!

• Blue Ribbons- An affordable and easy way to raise awareness at work, school, and church. Buy a couple rolls of ribbons and cut into wearable sizes; attach with small safety pin.

• Lend us your Hand- Paint your nails BLUE during November. Find a shade that closely matches the JDRF blue and people will surely comment on your blue nails!
