County to Move Hidden Valley Recycling to Brambleton Center

ROANOKE COUNTY, VA (November 19, 2012) – Roanoke County is in the process of moving its recycling trailers at Hidden Valley High school to a new location. The last day to drop-off recyclables at the Hidden Valley High school location is Friday, November 23.

The recycling trailers are being moved to the rear parking lot of the Brambleton Center. Roanoke County citizens can begin dropping-off recyclables at the Brambleton location beginning Monday, November 26. The Brambleton Center is located at 3738 Brambleton Avenue.

Roanoke County schools recently requested that the recycling trailers be moved from the Hidden Valley High school parking lot because of the excess recyclables, household garbage, and bulk items that were regularly left outside of the trailers.

Some examples of items left at the County’s various recycling locations include: boxes that were not broken down for placement in the recycling trailer, bags of household garbage, and larger items such as televisions, buckets with plaster, tires, and vehicle seats. The items left outside of the recycling bins create an eyesore and are especially problematic during windy conditions when trash and debris end up scattered throughout the school parking lot and across neighboring yards.

The following recyclables are accepted by Roanoke County: mixed paper, plastic #1 – #7, aluminum, steel cans, and tin cans. Mixed paper includes newsprint, office paper, magazines, and cardboard. Boxes should be broken down prior to being placed in the recycling trailer.

Recycling trailers are also available at these Roanoke County locations: William Byrd Middle school, Glenvar Middle school, Cox Communications on Fallowater Lane, and Hollins University.
