Former Roanoke Star player Michael Mecham named to All-American team
Former Roanoke Star player Michael Mecham has been named to the 2012 National Soccer Coaches Association of America High School Boys All-American Team!
Michael is the eighth All-American that the Roanoke Star Soccer Club has produced. The All-American team consists of the 77 best players from around the country in high school boys’ soccer. Michael is currently enrolled at University of North Carolina Wilmington and has completed his first season as a starter for the Seahawks.
When asked his thoughts about receiving this award, this is what the All-American had to say, “It is a great honor to receive this award, I feel that the hard work and support from my family and coaches paid off.
This is a team award, and I would have much rather been state champs, but it is great to be part of this group players. Without playing for the Roanoke Star Soccer Club, I would not be where I am today, the club prepared me to play at the Division I college level along with developing me as a good person.”
Michael’s new goal is to get All-American for UNCW. Former Roanoke Star All-Americans include: Grayson Prillaman, Dustin Fonder, Aaron Ewert, Danny Karbassiyoon, Donny Smith, Drew Harrison, and Paul Wallace.
