Pedestrian dies in Monday night accident on Brambleton Avenue

Roanoke County police are investigating a deadly crash from Monday night, in which a woman was struck and killed as she walked across Brambleton Avenue, police said.

Chase Purdy of The Roanoke Times has more on this story.

Here’s the release from the Roanoke County Police Department:

At 9:24 PM, Roanoke County Police were dispatched to the scene of a pedestrian involved vehicle crash. The crash involved a white 2011 Chevrolet Impala and a 70 year old female that was crossing Brambleton Ave. near the intersection with View Ave. The female, Ann T. Douthat (70 years of age) of Roanoke City had left a nearby business establishment and was crossing the roadway from the parking lot. The Impala which was driven by Richard Seamans, Jr. (48 years old) of Roanoke City, struck Mrs. Douthat in the left northbound lane of travel. Mr. Seamans was not injured. Mrs. Douthat was transported to an area hospital. Northbound traffic was diverted for 2 hours as Roanoke County Police Department Traffic Unit personnel investigated the scene. The crash remains under investigation at this time. It is unknown at this point if alcohol were a contributing factor.

And then this update:

A little after midnight on 12/18/2012 Ann T. Douthat passed away at Roanoke Memorial Hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash.The next of kin has been notified.
