Hidden Valley Youth Wrestlers attend tournament

Hidden Valley Youth Wrestlers attended the 2013 Smith Mountain Lake Open tournament at Staunton River High School in Moneta, VA. Over 300 wrestlers participated in this event.

Pee Wee Division

Landon Blackshear 1st place in the 50-54 weight class division. Landon defeated opponents from Tunstall (16-0), Roanoke Catholic (5-0) and Gladiator wrestling club (8-5).

Dylan LaPrad 1st place; 61-68 lb. weight-class division. Dylan won by decision over two (2) Roanoke Catholic opponents (8-0) and (6-1) as well as a (14-3) decision over a Southside opponent. Dylan also recorded pins over Blue Ride and RAW wrestling club athletes.

Sam McCown (1st Year) 1st place in the 46 lb. weight-class division. Sam earned his first Gold medal by pinning competitors from Liberty Christian Academy, Franklin County and Individual wrestling clubs. Congratulations to Sam.

Ethan Leonard 2nd place recorded pins over Southside and Halifax wrestling clubs.

Cole Janiga (1st Year) 3rd place in the 51-55 lb. weight-class division Cole had a 14-0 victory over a Smith Mountain Lake opponent and received the Bronze medal.

Chris Comer 3rd place: 52-62 lb. weight class division. Chris had a pin over a Brookville Bee opponent and an 8-0 decision over a RAW rival.

Tyler Duffy (1st Year) wrestled hard, but failed to medal.

Gabe Wheaton and Tom Lin had to retire due to injury.

Middle School Division

Jordan Duncan 1st place Jordan had a decision over a Southside opponent 5-4. Jordan went on afterwards to pin two (2) opponents from Smith Mountain Lake and a Brookville Bee rival.

Nate Goad 3rd place had a pin over a Liberty opponent and a decision over a Brookville Bee opponent (8-6).

Jeremiah Valentine 3rd place secured a Bronze medal for his efforts on the day.

Kiel Cook 4th place Kiel defeated opponents from Mat Pack and Smith Mountain Lake wrestling clubs each by pin.

Jeremiah Carter had a pin over a Pitbull opponent.

Jacob Carter had a pin over a Smith Mountain Lake opponent

Garrett Laplant did not medal on the day.
