Cave Spring Lions Club announces “Peace Poster” winners
Each year Lions Clubs International hold a peace poster contest to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere. A local contest was sponsored by the Cave Spring Lions Club. Winners were selected based on their originality, artistic merit, and portrayal of this year’s theme, “Imagine Peace”. Winners were, Daniel Bell, a student at Woodrow Wilson Middle School and Clara Spence, a student at James Madison Middle School. At a dinner meeting of the Cave Spring Lions Club each of these winners was recognized and received an Achievement Award Certificate and $100 cash. Each winner showed their poster and explained its meaning.
Over 100 Lions Clubs worldwide have given millions of boys and girls a chance to express their visions of peace through this program. The Cave Spring Lions Club thank James Madison and Woodrow Wilson Middle Schools for permitting them to sponsor these contests at their schools for the past fourteen years.”
The winner’s families and friends were present at the ceremony along with Janet Curry, art teacher at James Madison Middle School; Anne Fournier, art teacher, and Tressa Gibbons, school counseling coordinator at Woodrow Wilson Middle School; and Stephanie Hogan, principal of James Madison Middle School.
