Photos: CSES “Elf Yourself Day” December 18

The holidays may be over now, but just before Christmas break, kids at Cave Spring Elementary School participated in Elf Yourself Day.  It was December 18 and the halls and classrooms were bursting with excitement over the upcoming holiday and break.  Teachers and students alike had on holiday gear… many children had elf hats on that they had decorated themselves.   One student even wore elf shoes along with her elf hat!

The third and fourth graders whose classroom I visited were drawing beautiful pictures and others were reading stories aloud to one another.  As I walked down the hallway with Jodi Poff, the principal of CSES, I heard some excitement coming from the gym.  The 5th graders were having a ball playing games and listening to music.

The stage in the gym, on which I stood to survey the fun going on below, held bins upon bins filled with non-parishable food items, and above the bins was a sign saying, “Elves Stock the Shelves.”  The SCA had sponsored a school-wide food drive in which they collected as much food, personal care items, and pet care items as possible.  All the proceeds from the food drive went to the Trust House and the SPCA.

The holidays are over now, and kids are back in school, but the fun and excitement will certainly return next year.
