ROANOKE, Va., (January 2, 2013) – The board of directors of CMR Institute, the leading provider of non-brand related education for biopharmaceutical representatives and managers, has elected Dr. Anthony Slonim as chairman.

Dr. Slonim brings to the role diverse health care experiences that include being a practicing physician, professor, author and fellow. He is a professor of medicine and pediatrics at the UMDNJ’s New Jersey Medical School, professor in the Departments of Basic Sciences, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Virginia Tech-Carilion School of Medicine, and chief medical officer for Barnabas Health in West Orange, N.J.

The board also named its former chair, Jeff Mackie, Ph.D., Chairman Emeritus in recognition of his many years of dedicated service to the Institute.

“Leading an organization that provides so much knowledge and insight for such a critical industry is something I’m excited to take on,” Dr. Slonim said. “The board is grateful to Dr. Mackie for his 18 years of outstanding service and leadership to the Institute.”

At Barnabas Health, Dr. Slonim oversees all initiatives supporting the delivery of exceptional patient care. Prior to his current role, he served in leadership positions at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Md., Carilion Clinic, and Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

In addition to his teaching role at the Virginia Tech-Carilion School of Medicine, he is a Fellow of the American College of Physician Executives and the College of Critical Medicine and has authored 15 books and more than 55 published manuscripts.

Dr. Slonim completed his Medical Doctorate (MD) program at New York Medical College and earned a master’s and doctorate in administrative medicine and health policy from the George Washington University School of Public Health.
