Jonathan Hartranft, a 2010 Hidden Valley High School graduate, has completed a through-hike on the Appalachian Trail.
He left Springer Mountain, Ga. on Feb. 2, 2013 and made the summit of Mount Katahdin, Maine on Aug. 1, 2013. He was the 78th northbound hiker this season to complete the entire trail.
Hartranft is credited with hiking 2,189 miles in 181 days.
During his trek, the weather proved to be his greatest challenge with ice and snow during the late winter in the south and lots of rain and mud during the unusually wet spring and summer in the northeast. Hartranft, an Eagle Scout, credits much of his success in accomplishing the hike to the outdoor survival training he received in Boy Scouts.
He is currently at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, continuing his undergraduate education.
