Coastal Carolina University is a dynamic, public comprehensive liberal arts institution located in Conway, just minutes from the resort area of Myrtle Beach, S.C. The University offers 65 areas of study toward the baccalaureate degree and seven master’s degree programs in accountancy, business administration, education, marine and wetland studies, and writing. Clearbrook Elementary’s Field Day was held on June 3rd. All students in the school participated in 13 stations which included the following: Tug of War, Egg Toss, Water Relay, Water Sponge Throw, Parachute, Find the Marbles, Freeze Pops, Ball Activities, Giant Cup Stacking, Playground Activities, Scooter Noodle Tag, Get the Balls Out of the Backyard, and Sack Races/3 legged race. In the afternoon, the students gathered to participate in a Whipped Cream Pie Throw at Physical Education Teacher, Nancy Tucker.

Roanoke Post 3 plays host to Lynchburg Post 16 Thursday at 7:00 pm at Kiwanis Field in Salem. Roanoke Post 3 has won the regular season and district tournament two years running, while Lynchburg Post 16 is the defending 2012 Virginia state champion. Over the past several years, these two teams have been the top programs in this region of the state, with Lynchburg coming within one regional win of advancing to the World Series last season.

This weekend, Roanoke Post 3 is also hosting Hammond Post 3 from Tennessee and Christiansburg Post 59 in a Junior and Senior series of games beginning Friday night at 7:00 pm, continuing Saturday with four games beginning at 11:00 am and concluding Sunday with two games beginning at 12 noon. All games are at Kiwanis Field in Salem, and admission is free. Roanoke Post 3 teams feature players from Hidden Valley, Cave Spring, Salem, Northside, Patrick Henry and North Cross schools.

Loren Wright submitted pictures from right before it hit, when she was at Green Hill Park in western Roanoke County, and after last week’s thunderstorms.

Here are more pictures taken outside of my parents’ home in Southwest County near Cave Spring. Their beautiful 200 year old Oak tree was uprooted in last week’s storm. You can see the damage it caused. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the road is still partially blocked by the downed tree.
