What is the timeframe for submission of events? Are their guidelines somewhere?

Carol, we do have a deadline for calendar items. I would recommend sending in notice of the event at least 2 weeks before it’s scheduled to hapepn. Feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with any more questions.

The name “The Burgs” indicates exclusion of Radford, Dublin and Pulaski. Why did you rename it from “The Current”? I’ve never understood, so perhaps you can explain.
I hate the new format since it changed from The Current to the Burgs. I’d hoped it would get better, but it hasn’t. The Burgs section is now only filled with high school sports photos and the like. Where is the subsistence? How is the New River Valley suppose to attract young outsiders if all we seem to care about is HS sports? The vast majority of the NRV has no affiliation with the schools. If we wanted to hear about High School events, we’d pick up a high school paper.

I’m working with a friend on a commentary submission for The Burgs. I know there’s a word limit of 200 for letters to the editor. Is there a word limit for commentaries.

Do we know what happened to Cici’s Pizza in christiansburg?
i agree thoroughly with Chris Wilson’s statement. the Burgs or whatever has become a useless and annoying waste of wood pulp and trees! i merely throw it in the trash every friday! i could care less about ‘squeaky-clean’prom kids…they might be a little more interesting in a few years if they make it into college and start kegging and ‘messin’ around’…
My daughter has made the Dean’s List again at college. Is there an email address or fax number where I can submit the announcement? I have mailed at least two in the past but they have never been published.
Randy — Some schools send out dean’s lists, some don’t. Radford, fortunately, is one that does, so it should automatically be coming to us. But for the benefit of others, if your school is one that doesn’t, or you don’t want to wait for the college to put out the list, you can share at email@example.com. And congrats!
I send an event notice about a breakfast and bake sale on May 25th=== it did not get into the burgs.
the same thing happen in Nov, 2012
can you explain

Are you talking about the Breakfast and Bake Sale at Trinity United Methodist Church in Christiansburg? This announcement ran in the May 19 edition of The Burgs (the Sunday before the event).

Our 6th grade classes will be launching our hand built rockets this Tuesday from 9-11 and then 1-2. If there are any remaining we will launch the rest on Wednesday.
This is a culminating activity for our space study and to celebrate the end of the year. If you are interested and available we would like to invite you to join us. I know it’s short notice so I understand if you are not able to. Please let me know either way as you have time.
Thank you for all you do to give our community the opportunity to see the great things our school system and kids do.

I’m glad Montgomery County has yet another forum for their news and school activities, but there are other localities that are not part of the “Burgs” unless someone dies or there’s plenty of useless gossip to fluff up the stories to make the rest of the New River Valley sound like the wastelands of the state. Just rename the publication, again, and name it more appropriately so readers won’t be misled into thinking any events outside of Mont Co are news worthy.

How do I send information about an individuals accomplishments I would like published?
Harding Avenue is having a 40th birthday party on September 28th and we would love it if we could get someone to write about the event before it happens, to encourage the community to attend. I’d also like to run it in “The Burgs” calendar section for the next two weeks. How do I do that and who do I contact?

Do you do stories of local high school graduates who have achievements in college? My daughter is at UK – Lexington KY and is playing the role of Fantine in UK Opera Theater’s production of Les Miserables in October. It is a pretty big honor for her as a transfer student to UK. I thought it would be inspiring to those involved in music. She graduated from Auburn High School in 2010. Thanks for your consideration.

I noticed you listed land transfers in Radford for the month of June and wondered where I can go to find the same info for other months.
