RC-Giles Breakfast Branch Lions Club participate in “To Our House” homeless ministry

Lion Chris Calfee, Andy Ratcliffe, Lions Charlie Herbert, Edna Malone and Al Katz serve breakfast to homeless as a part of To Our House Ministries at Pembroke Methodist Church.
Members of Rich Creek-Giles Breakfast Branch Lions Club spent the morning of Jan. 19 in action.
Members or the club met at Pembroke Methodist Church to prepare and serve breakfast to homeless men from throughout the New River Valley who were spending their nights at the church. This effort by the church is a part of the “To Our House” homeless ministry for men.
Lions assisting were Club Coordinator Charlie Herbert, Club Assistant Coordinator Al Katz, Lions Edna Malone and Chris Calfee along with Andy Ratcliffe. Breakfast was served at 6 a.m. after which the club held its regular, monthly breakfast meeting.
RC-Giles Breakfast Branch Lions Club Coordinator reports that the first order of business for the club’s regular January meeting was the induction its newest member, Chris Calfee. Calfee’s hometown is Bluefield.
Calfee holds an arts degree from New River Community College. For the past 13 years. he has been employed by BB&T as a Branch Manager. He now serves as a financial center leader and bank officer managing both the Narrows and New River Valley Mall Branches. Calfee is married and has two children.
Besides his work and family, Calfee says he has followed his grandfather in becoming a member of the Freemasons. He belongs to the McDaniel Lodge in Christiansburg. When asked about his community service involvement, Calfee says “I am happy to serve as both a Lion and a Freemason as my Grandfather did for many years. I grew up knowing both organizations and happily serve with both when and where called.”
RC-Giles Breakfast Branch Lions Club is proud to have Calfree as its newest member.
