Sarah Carper Morris ordained as deacon at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Christiansburg
Sarah Carper Morris was ordained a deacon on March 29, 2012 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church by the bishop of the Diocese of Southwestern Virginia, The Rt. Rev. Neff Powell. Bishop Powell called the service “one of the most beautiful and gracious ordinations that I have ever attended . . . . the church was full. There were people present from all stages of Sarah’s life, from childhood to seminary to the churches where she has served as youth minister to the churches she attended in Southwest Virginia as she worked through our ordination process these past two years.”
Morris is the daughter of Jane and Kinzer Carper of Christiansburg, Virginia. A graduate of Auburn High School, Morris completed her undergraduate degree at Berea College where she studied physical education, health, and athletics. She received her first master’s degree in Curriculum Development and Instruction from the University of New Mexico and her Master of Divinity degree from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Morris currently serves as Deacon-in-Charge at Christ Episcopal Church in Pearisburg, Virginia.
