Photos: Fitness Challenge raises $10,700 for humane society
The 2012 Fitness Challenge took place on Saturday, April 21 at Blacksburg Health and Fitness at the Weight Club. The event, organized by professional bodybuilder and personal trainer Kurt Weidner, featured 21 athletes from 10 to 60+ years of age, who obtained pledges of support for each repetition they could perform of a self-selected exercise, such as pull-ups, deadlifts, or tire flips.
“Participants are given the incentive to push the limits and find out what they are capable of, knowing the more they do, the more money they raise,” Weidner said.
Erin Hall attended as a representative of the Humane Society of Montgomery County, serving as its vice president, but also as an athlete who produced a strong set of 34 push ups to demonstrate her commitment to both fitness and the HSMC.
“Participating in the 2012 Fitness Challenge was a great experience for me. Pushing yourself physically and having people cheer you on is a wonderful feeling especially when you are doing it for such a great cause. The animals at the shelter and the animals of the community will benefit from this challenge as funds will be used for general purposes such as feeding, medical care and supplies as well as the spay/neuter program,” Hall said.
